Unique Book Store by Laura M. at InsiderPages
A Cappella is a hip, independent bookstore in Atlanta's Little 5 district. They carry a wide variety of new, used and rare books and specialize in southern literature, music, and alternative/counter culture books. The shop is tidy, organized and welcoming, and carries very high quality stock. Staff members are knowledgeable and can help you find anything from bestselling fiction to obscure art volumes. I usually arrive with one specific book in mind and leave with a big stack of volumes I discovered while browsing.

One of my favorite things about A Cappella is their community involvement. They hold regular readings and book signings and have a strong presence in the Atlanta book scene.

A Cappella is located right on Moreland Avenue and is a great place to check out while spending time in the pedestrian friendly Little 5 area.

Books for People who Love to Read by Rhetta A. at InsiderPages
A Capella is a small bookstore in the section of Atlanta known as Little Five Points, or, more commonly, just Little Five. This is significant, because for many years Little Five has been the location for some of Atlanta's most unique stores. A Capella calls itself the bookstore for smart people. They specialize is rare and out-of-print volumes, although they also have some new and used recent books. I especially love their section on the Beat authors, where you'll find Kerouac and Ginsberg as well as less well-known Beat poets and writers.

PROS: many books that are hard to find elsewhere, great Beat section

mediocre.
For a used book store, this place was expensive in my opinion. Really, the only great thing is that they had a decent selection of French language books that were inexpensive. I found a brand new copy of La Nausee by Sartre for $4.75 (normally, if you can find anything like that at all, it's going to be expensive because of import prices, etc). But I can't imagine coming back here for anything else.

The way bookstores should be
An independently owned bookstore, A Cappella Books wins over the big chains on so many fronts. Packed with fiction, non-fiction and a lot of specialty categories, the selection is quite remarkable given the store's small size. Most of its books are used, but A Cappella also stocks some intelligent and popular books as well. First editions in the case can be pricey, but most everything else, especially the paperbacks, is reasonable. If you can't find something, ask a member of the store's very knowledgeable sales staff. One of my favorite things about the store is that it posts a sign asking customers to turn off their cell phones--a nice change of pace.
